    • Jennie Baldwin-Schraft was reared in Wichita, graduated from East high school in 1941, and attended Wichita University 1942-43. She was secretary at the Wichita "Beacon" plant and the Quiring Monument plant and in Milton, FL in 1947 for Woodrow Melvin, county attorney and state representative. William Schraft II ("Bill") was reared in Buffalo, NY, attended Kensington high school there. He was 33 months in the U.S. Naval Air Corps as a PV-2 aircraft mechanic, stationed in Hutchinson, KS, Lake City and Milton, FL and Sampson, NY. He was formerly freight brakeman with the New York Central RR, and then began the same work with the Missouri Pacific RR in Wichita in 1953. Jennie and Bill first met in Wichita, while Bill was stationed at the Hutchinson, KS air base. "Bill belongs to the brotherhood of railroad trainmen. He likes to fish and hunt. We all like to go swimming and to travel. I belong to the alter society of our church. Right now I'm tied down raising a family and running a taxi service three times a day to and from school with the children. Does anyone have much time for outside interests when raising a family of three children 1 ½ years apart in age? I'm waiting for my day!" (Written four months before her fourth child was born.)rown hair and fair complexion. She is usually good natured - or at least was till she had four small children. (They can be pretty trying at times.) She sews for all the family - and can cook! Her sweet rolls are 'out of this world.' To her family, she can never bake enough of them. To her, Christmas isn't Christmas without making stacks of frosted cookies in all shapes - to delight the children. But like any woman, she's never satisfied, is waiting for the day she dies, so she can have a 'day off.' She and I both like good music, but not high classics. Jennie is a determined soul. Like the time I was out of town for a week. The car wouldn't go in reverse, so she drove it straight ahead. Lit in the ditch! Pitched Christine's head into the windshield and gave both boys big goose eggs on their heads. Imagine my surprise when I returned home and found the Ford with the front wheels in the ditch and the rear end suspended in the air. We've lived only nine years together, but they've been full, happy ones. Our only major accomplishments have been fourll, blond, with blue eyes and a ruddy complexion. He definitely is not the chatterbox of the family, but he has his firm convictions and stands for them. Seems odd how he can never find anything unless a neon sign pops up saying, 'Here I am.' He seems never to remember birthdays and other special days without being reminded - except Christmas, and I guess Christmas just hits him over the head and he can't miss it. He's great for always bringing turtles, geese, dogs, etc. home for the children. As a handy man he's A-1. He practically built our new house himself, plus the furniture for the house. As for our marriage, he thinks we're a great team and that I'm his only one. As to good nature, he has far the best. A native New Yorker, he's become a typicald, most of all me, his wife."1972. Jennie helped start the business, but mainly stayed home to care for their four children. Through the years, they acquired property in and around Wichita and began their own property management and development company, Schraft Corporation. Their son Brad joined Bill in the business 20 years ago. They celebrated the 55th anniversary of the company in 2004. 2004: "My father and mother were great parents all through my growing up. They were always great about helping and working with me on my school work. They participated in all my sports activities which enabled me to keep improving. My mom even played catch with me! Working with my dad has turned out to be one of the greatest learning experiences of my life. Because of this, we are in touch pretty much on a daily basis. I am grateful and blessed to have them as my parents."

Jennie writes of her husband, "Bill is 5 ft. 10 in. tall, blond, with blue eyes and a ruddy complexion. He definitely is not the chatterbox of the family, but he has his firm convictions and stands for them. Seems odd how he can never find anything unless a neon sign pops up saying, 'Here I am.' A native New Yorker, he's become a typical Kansan, of whom we're all proud, most of all me, his wife." In 2004, this is what Jennie and Bill would like to add to the excerpt from 1954: In 1952, Bill and Jennie started an asphalt and paving business which they owned until 1972. Brad writes of his parents in 2004: "My father and mother were great parents all through my growing up. They were always great about helping and working with me on my school work. They participated in all my sports activities which enabled me to keep improving. My mom even played catch with me! Working with my dad has turned out to be one of the greatest learning experiences of my life. Because of this, we are in touch pretty much on a daily basis.
