Bio: A son of Geoffrey Dormer (II) by his wife Judith Baldington, Geoffrey (III) was a merchant and member of the Staple of Calais. Only the given name of his first wife, Margery, is known. His second wife was Alice Collingridge, who survived him.
Although he had twelve sons between his two wives, only six were still surviving by 1498, the year he settled the manor of Baldington at Thame on his son, Geoffrey (IV), with remainders to his other sons Michael, Peter, Edward, William, and Thomas.
The monument he shares here with both of his wives was described by Rev. Frederick George Lee's in his book, 'The History, Description & Antiquities of the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Thame' (London: Mitchell & Huges, 1883; pg. 93):

"In the north wall of the transept, towards the eastern part...an altar-tomb...in commemoration of GEOFFREY DORMER and his two wives [MARGERY and ALICE]; one with five sons and eight daughters underneath, and the other with seven sons and five daughters." On the monument are two coats of arms and a shield bearing his merchant's mark. "Round the edge of the tomb the following inscription in brass still remains:

Orate pro animab's Galfridi Dormer, mercatoris stapule ville Cali's et Margere et Alicie uxores eius qui Quidem Galfridus obiit nono die Marcii Anno d'ni Mil's'mo qingentesimo secundo quor'a'i'ab' propicietur Deus. Amen.
